ABBYY
Recognition Server 3.0
::
Organizations that need automated and
streamlined OCR and document conversion
processes can find the ideal
productivity-enhancing solution in ABBYY
Recognition Server 3.0. This robust and
powerful server-based platform is designed
for mid- to high-volume document processing
across departments and enterprises. It can
be deployed as a stand-alone program or an
integral part of a third-party system, such
as DMS, RMS and electronic archiving
systems.

For developers and advanced users, an open API and Web
Services provide flexibility and power
to build customized workflows to tailor
ABBYY Recognition Server specifically to
their needs.
Overview
ABBYY Recognition Server 3.0 is a robust and
powerful server-based OCR solution for
automating document conversion processes
across corporate departments and
enterprises. Designed for mid- to
high-volume OCR processing, ABBYY
Recognition Server 3.0 can be used as both a
turn-key solution or an integral part of
document capture, document management and
back-end systems.
This is an ideal system for:
High-volume conversion of printed documents
to searchable formats, such as PDF and PDF/A
(e.g., for digitizing archives or records
creation)
Automating and streamlining routine document
conversion processes in large departments
and enterprises
Low-cost and rapid integration with other
server-based systems and applications
e-Discovery, Indexing and Enterprise Search
Systems
Key Features
Quick deployment and ease of use.
Installing and setting up the Recognition
Server to process a million pages takes as
long as installing any other desktop
application to process just a few pages.
Highly Accurate OCR (Optical Character
Recognition) in 194 languages through
ABBYY’s award-winning OCR technology,
including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew
and Thai.
Unattended server-based processing.
Document conversion tasks are performed
automatically on a server, during scheduled
hours or around-the-clock.
Customizable workflow process.
Optional Scanning, Indexing, and
Verification Stations can be added to the
process to enhance the productivity of the
system.

Unmatched Scalability. With its
ability to use resources of additional
computers and CPUs during processing,
Recognition Server 3.0 can convert virtually
any volume of documents within tight
deadlines. There is no need for complex
system configuration–it takes just a few
minutes to extend the processing power by
plugging additional stations into the
system.

Centralized Management through Microsoft
Management Console (MMC). Recognition
Server 3.0 provides a remote management
console as a central administration point
for defining processing parameters, creating
specific “workflows” for particular projects
and managing recognition stations across the
enterprise.
Reliability and Fault Tolerance.
Designed as a highly robust solution,
Recognition Server 3.0 ensures ongoing
system stability and data safety.
Flexible Integration Tools.
Integration with scanners, MFPs, imaging
applications and back-end systems has never
been easier. Recognition Server 3.0 can
communicate with other systems in a number
of ways: via “watched” folders, email,
COM-compatible API, Web Service API and via
XML. It provides all the features to
function as an OCR Web Service in a
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
In addition, ABBYY Recognition Server 3.0
connects as a background OCR server to
enterprise systems such as Microsoft® Office
SharePoint® Server, Windows® Search and
Google Search Appliance™, enhancing their
capabilities to search over the content of
document images.
Architecture
Components
ABBYY Recognition Server 3.0 consists of
several components, which can be installed
on the same or on different computers in a
LAN. The main components are:
Server Manager – a central service
component, which controls the document
processing queue and distributes the tasks
among the stations
Processing Station – a service that performs
recognition and document conversion
Scanning Station – a client station for
batch scanning and image pre-processing
Verification Station – a client station,
which provides an interface for proofreading
recognition results
Indexing Station – a client station for
document indexing
Connector to Google Search Appliance™ (GSA)
– a component that allows Google Search
Appliance to use ABBYY Recognition Server
for extracting content from document images
Connector to Microsoft® Search Systems (iFilter)
– a component that allows Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server and Windows Search to use
ABBYY Recognition Server for extracting
content from document images
Remote Administration Console – a client
console based on Microsoft Management
Console (MMC) so familiar to System
Administrators used for configuring and
monitoring ABBYY Recognition Server 3.0
